International Arabian Horse Association History

The International Arabian Horse Association history dates back to the 1950’s. It was formed to standardize and consolidate Arabian horse interests for all strains and breedings. It also established guidelines and rules for competition and promoted the Arabian horse.

Insuring Only the Best

Unfortunately, controversy derailed the organization in 2001. As a result, the International Arabian Horse Association history includes a merger with the Arabian Horse Registry of America in 2002. The Arabian Horse Registry was created in 1908 and became the oldest Arabian horse organization in North America. The merger resulted in the formation of today’s Arabian Horse Association.

All Arabian horse organizations, whether they are clubs or incorporated businesses, have one primary purpose. The purpose is to promote the Arabian horse through the preservation of blood lines and pedigree. The Arabian horse is the horse that has had the greatest impact on horse breeding in North America. It not only is a true purebred, it is the foundation stock for thoroughbred horses and is one of the bloodlines in the American quarter horse.

The International Arabian Horse Association and the Arabian Horse Registry of America were joined together in the early 2000’s to form the Arabian Horse Association. Though the organizations were merged, the purpose did not change - Arabian horse bloodline purity preservation.

Registering Quality

Arabian horses are registered while still foals. The pedigree is listed so that all future owners know exactly the source of the bloodlines. It is through the efforts of the Arabian horse organizations that the standards have been maintained. Though the International Arabian Horse Association history was marked by problems in the end, it was also crucial for protecting the purity of Arabian horses.

It is through organizations such as the International Arabian Horse Association that accurate registration records were maintained. The current Arabian Horse Association not only registers Arabian horses, it determines show standards for almost all Arabian horse shows.

The Arabian Horse Association includes setting rules for breeding, pedigree, and shows for not just Arabian horses. The show rules apply to Half-Arabian and Anglo-American horses. The Arabian Horse Association, as governing body for Arabian horse shows, also licenses the show judges. This is to insure that judging is consistent.

The purpose of Arabian horse organizations over the years has been to maintain the integrity and purity of the Arabian horse bloodlines. Arabians today are defined by their countries of origin, though all purebred Arabians can be traced back to the original five strains.

The Arabian horse is an animal of beauty and powerful grace. When you buy an Arabian horse that is registered with the Arabian Horse Association, you know that your horse is backed by a long history accurately recorded through generations. The International Arabian Horse Association history is a story of dedication to a cause that has been defended through time.
